Shell Taipa 'All-in' - Scott Wilson (35) 1

Report

With thunderstorms predicted for Taipa Speedway's meeting on Sunday 16 May it was a pleasant surprise to find the day sunny and hot.  The track was a little soft from rain on the preceding days but wheel packed to a great driving surface.

Mens Super Saloons and B Grade Saloons were out first.  Geordie Inglis had his Super flying to win the first two races.  Brian O'Connell raced without mishap for two wins in B Grade while Pip Jecentho and Kelvin Coate suffered mechanical issues.  Pip Jecentho's racing ended in the third round with broken suspension.

Melissa Timoti won the first race for Ladies Production, and came in second in the second race, but rolled spectacularly in the third on the bottom bend.  Her Nissan Primera went up on its right hand side and then did an end for end, and a final barrel roll onto four wheels to complete the sequence.  Timoti was smiling when she emerged from the car unscathed.

It was a successful day for Scott Wilson who ran away for three good wins in Mens C Grade.  Wilson also won the final race of the day, the Shell Taipa 'All-in' with Max Andresen and Geordie Inglis in their Supers both unable to pass slower traffic to reel in Wilson for the second time.

Kaikohe's John Hussey in the Inglis Super Saloon followed Shirley Andresen home in two special Super Saloon races.  Jaythan Swift's Nissan Cefiro led the large Men's Production field home for two great wins with Bruce Mallindine chasing hard.  Mallindine secured the third win.

Newcomer Bradie Wilson led the Ladies C Grade racing for three wins while Junior Alan Wealleans drove strongly for his three races.

This was the last domestic race meet for the season.  The Taipa Stock and Saloon Car Club is now preparing for its Annual two day Speedway Extravaganza at Queen's Birthday Weekend to be held this year on 5 & 6 June 2010.  Competitor entries are being received from as far away as Wellington.  The Queen's Birthday Extravaganza is a fully sponsored meeting.  Individuals and businesses are welcome to come forward with sponsorship by phoning President, Brian O'Connell (09) 4095816.

REPORT

New records in hot lap time trials at Taipa Speedway on Sunday May 2 – but by ladies!

Once again a well prepared track (Thanks Pip) and great weather boded well for fast racing action at Taipa on Sunday 2 May.

Pip Jecentho put his B Grade Nissan out against the Super Saloons and Limited Saloons.  It was an amazing sight to watch the little Nissan give them all a run for their money.  So much so that Jecentho recorded the fastest hot lap time of the day at 14.67 seconds.  Geordie Inglis in his Super Saloon posted the second fastest time of 14.77 seconds.  Neil Turner and Inglis vied to be the first Super across the line for three races with Turner holding out for two wins.  Keith Wilson’s Limited held off the challenges from Jason Halliday to score three wins.  But Halliday was strong for the win in the last race of the day, the ‘All-In.’   Or should we call this ‘All-in’ the ‘All-out’ as six of the eight starters had mechanical issues and retired and lined up on the infield!

Craig DeWaal raced his re-engined CRX ‘8-Ball’ to three wins in Mens C Grade but had Tony Over in a new DeWaal built 1600cc Integra holding station on his tailpipe for many laps.  Carole Teixeira, also in the new Integra, led the Ladies C Grade races for three wins.  Junior, Alan Wealleans, showed great driving skills to shadow Teixeira in races two and three.

Nissan Skyline’s dominated Mens Production racing with Bruce Mallindine scoring two wins to Grant Kidd’s one win.  Ladies Super Saloons saw a battle between Debbie Wilson, Shirley Andresen, and Shevana Williams.  Wilson ended the day with two chequered flags although Williams posted the fasted hot lap time of 15.79 seconds.  This was a new club time trial record for Shevana.

Rob Teixeira was out amongst the beauties in Standard Stockcars and recorded two wins against Sue Waitford’s one win.  Sue posted a new club time trial record for Ladies Standard Stockcars of 17.38 seconds, to better her time of the previous year.

Taipa’s next race meet will be held on Sunday 16th May with a 12 noon start.  This is the last domestic race meet before the Annual Speedway Extravaganza at Queen’s Birthday to be held this year on 5th & 6th June.  Entries are flowing in from all over the North Island for this Queen’s Birthday two day meet.  Don’t miss the action!
